Four-time French Open champ Justine Henin to be inducted into International Tennis Hall of Fame

I always loved watching Justine Henin play tennis.

She had one of the most beautiful backhands in the history of the game and had so much heart.

Justine managed to carve out a Hall of Fame career during some of Serena Williams dominant years winning seven Grand Slam singles titles: four French Opens, two US Opens and an Australian Open crown. She also won the Olympic Gold Medal in singles in 2004.

Wimbledon was the only grand slam title Justine did not win. She lost three-set finals to Venus Williams in 2001 and to Amelie Mauresmo in 2006.

She topped the WTA Tour rankings for 117 weeks taking year-end top honors in 2003, 2006 and 2007, and retired in 2011 with 43 career singles titles.

Now 33 and a mother, it was announced this weekend that Justine will be inducted this summer into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

“The Hall of Famers are individuals who I have admired from the time I was a young girl, throughout my career, and to this day,” she said in a statement.

One Remark

  1. Henin competed amongst giants quite literally but she more than held her own. She had heart, grit and yes, one of the most beautiful one handed backhands the game has ever seen. It’s a shame she never won Wimbledon but I’m happy The Tennis Hall Of Fame is acknowledging her for her accomplishments.
