Fantasia Barrino says she’s been taken out of context: “‘I support the gay community as they support me”
Can Fantasia Barrino dig herself out of this one?
The winner of the third season of American Idol is claiming her comments about gay marriage in an Instagram rant have been taken out of context.
The Grammy winner had posted a rant which read in part: ‘Its a lot going on that the Bible speaks about we should Not be doing: Weed legal in some places, Gay Marriage Legal BUT YET IM JUDGED!!!’
Now she writes: ‘It has been brought to my attention that something I said was taken out of context. I, Fantasia Monique Barrino, don’t judge anyone because I don’t want to be judged.’ ‘The gay community is one of my largest supporters,’ she adds. ‘I support the gay community as they support me. Bloggers please stop misrepresenting the facts.’
Barrino, 28, has had one of the more successful post-Idol careers with a Grammy win, three hit albums, and the role of Celie on Broadway and in the national tour of the musical The Color Purple. But her personal life has been turbulent with a suicide attempt, being accused in a divorce case of stealing a woman’s husband, and having a second child as a single mother. It remains to be seen whether Barrino’s explanation will quell the controversy. Below is the original Instagram post:
