‘Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway’ becomes Barbra Streisand’s 11th number one album
Barbra Streisand’s new album, Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway, has entered the Billboard 200 chart as number one.
This is astonishing on many levels starting with it being her 11th number one album and comes nearly 52 years after she had her first number one album with 1964′s People. It is the longest span between No. 1s in history.
In between Streisand’s number one albums have been Partners (2014), Love Is the Answer (2009), Higher Ground (1997), Back to Broadway (1993), The Broadway Album (1986), Guilty (1980), Barbra Streisand’s Greatest Hits, Volume 2 (1979), A Star Is Born (1977), and The Way We Were (1974).
She is now tied ties her with Bruce Springsteen for the third-most number one albums among all acts. The only artists with more No. 1s are The Beatles, with a record 19 chart-toppers, and Jay Z, with 13.
Streisand is the only act to have achieved No. 1 albums in the last six decades — the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s.
