Elizabeth Taylor tribute at this weekend’s TCM Film Festival features “Virginia Woolf” and “A Place in the Sun”
The TCM Film Festival debuted in Hollywood last year and quickly became one of my favorite events of the year.
For a movie fan, there is nothing like watching classic movies on the big screen at such classic theaters in Hollywood as Grauman’s and the Egyptian.
The festival kicked off last night with a screening of An American In Paris at Grauman’s with star Leslie Caron in attendance.
I’m going to be taking in as many movies as I can over the next three days starting with Spartacus tonight. Kirk Douglas is expected to be in attendance. On Saturday, my schedule will include All About Eve, The Man With the Golden Arm (star Frank Sinatra’s daughters Nancy and Tina will be there), Breakfast at Tiffanys and Gaslight which will feature an appearance by Angela Lansbury who was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in that film.
Then Sunday, I’ll kick things off with That’s Entertainment at Grauman’s then head over to The Egyptian for The Unsinkable Molly Brown where star Debbie Reynolds will be on hand to talk about her Oscar-nominated role. I’ll stay at The Egyptian to take in A Place in the Sun which is part of a tribute to the late Elizabeth Taylor and will be introduced by Rose McGowan. Then it’ll be back to the Grauman’s complex to see Who’s Afraid of Virgina Woolf?
I highly recommend you try and catch a few movies at this great event. Other films still to be screened include West Side Story, Taxi Driver, Becket (Peter O’Toole will appear), Citizen Cane, The Trouble With Harry, Network, Reds (Warren Beatty will appear), The Parent Trap (Hayley Mills will appear), Shaft (Richard Roundtree will appear), The Little Shop of Horrors (Roger Corman will appear), Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Jane Powell will appear), The Godfather and To Kill a Mockingbird.
Here is a LINK to the festival’s website. Try and catch a movie this weekend – you will not regret it!
