Eden Reigel talks about her new life on “The Young and the Restless” and about leaving AMC’s Bianca behind
Just about every news outlet wanted to chat with Eden Reigel at yesterday’s Daytime Emmy Awards so by the time she got to Greg In Hollywood, I was afraid she might be too exhausted to be very coherent!
But this is one professional actress and a very gracious woman.
Eden, of course, is beloved for her Emmy winning role as Bianca Montgomery on All My Children. The character is the daughter of Erica Kane and a lesbian who participated in daytime’s first same-sex wedding last year.
But these days, Eden is playing attorney Heather Stevens on The Young and the Restless.
I talked to her about all of it but before we began, music legend Chubby Checker – at the Emmys to participate in a tribute to Dick Clark - asked if I wouldn’t mind snapping a photo of him with Eden (see below). She was delighted to do it and he was thrilled.
Then we got down to business:
On her new soap gig: “It’s going good. It’s been a challenge because it’s new terrain and a very new character, very different from what I did before. But I love the challenge and I certainly have a great group of people to work with. They are just spectacular.”
On Bianca being recently recast on All My Children: Christina Bennett Lind is doing an dsuch an amazing job on the show. I’ve been so thrilled and so impressed with what she’s done in such a short time. It’s a role that I care about a great deal and she is perfect for it. She is going to do great things.”
On the legacy of Bianca: “It was very important to me when Bianca came out. A lot of people who are very close to me are gay and also marriage equality is a very important issue. I wanted to play the character in an effective and responsible way. I didn’t always agree with everything that the show did but appreciated that Bianca always had a part that people could really relate to and that even if she was the only gay person in their lives that they knew that maybe that would make the difference and help open up their hearts.”
On the Emmys: “It’s fun to be here and not be nominated. You can just relax and have fun. We’re here to have a good time.”
