Doris Singleton, who played Carolyn Appleby on “I Love Lucy” has died at the age of 92

Any I Love Lucy fan certainly knows all about Carolyn Appleby, the seemingly sweet woman who was Lucy Ricardo’s ‘frenemy’ throughout the run of the series.

Whether they were being competitive over whose baby was cuter or mingling with movie stars like Van Johnson in Hollywood, their game of one-upmanship was always very funny.

Well, the talented actress who played Carolyn, Doris Singleton, died yesterday at the age of 92.

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting her last summer at the Hollywood Museum during the opening night of the “Lucille Ball at 100 & ‘I Love Lucy’ at 60″ exhibit that ran last year.

I was so excited that I blurted out some lines from the episode where Carolyn nominates Lucy for president of their women’s club in exchange for Lucy parting with her new stylish new sweater and handbag. She laughed and said: ‘That was the first episode I ever did!”

She really WAS a great actress. I loved her on I Love Lucy, over and over again she sometimes trumped the star in garnering laughs. I loved it when she couldn’t find her glasses to see the movie stars….and the one with her and her baby (“Little Stevie”) and Lucy and little Ricky – HILARIOUS!!! R.I.P.

  4. RIP Doris ingleton you will be GREATLY MISSED, we know your with Desi, William Frawley, Vivan Vance, & Lucy making everyone laugh up there. You all will be GREATLY MISSED BUT ALWAYS REMEMBERED.
