Don’t miss Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center free panel on Islam & Homosexuality next week
As part of its Big Queer Convo public discussion series, the LA Gay & Lesbian Center on Monday (Sept. 24) is hosting Cultures in Collision: Islam and Homosexuality.
It features two Muslim women – one a lesbian DJ, the other a straight ally and singer – who are both dedicated to LGBT equality.
They will examine the seldom-discussed topic of discrimination faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Muslims, from both a U.S.-based and a worldwide perspective.
Songwriter, producer, activist Ani Zonneveld (pictured above) is the straight ally and Ipek İpekçioğlu (pictured, left)is the lesbian DJ. The discussion will be moderated by activist Naveed Merchant.
The women will be doing more than talking. The event, which is free, will also include a live musical performance by Zonneveld, and İpekçioğlu will DJ during the post-event reception.
The event will take place inside The Center’s Renberg Theatre (the 200-seat mid-size theatre) located The Village at Ed Gould Plaza, 1125 N. McCadden Place, Hollywood.
