Dustin Lance Black to Sam Smith: ‘May be time to stop texting my fiancé’
Sure, Sam Smith received several congratulatory tweets from such fellow out celebrities as Ellen DeGeneres and Jesse Tyler Ferguson after winning the Academy Award for best original song on Sunday.
But one of the tweets he got offered something other than a congratulations.
It was from fellow Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black who is engaged to Olympic diver Tom Daley.
@SamSmithWorld, if you have no idea who I am, it may be time to stop texting my fiancé. Here’s a start:
Black, who won the original screenplay Oscar seven years ago for Milk, included the link to a YouTube video of him accepting an Oscar of his own.
When he accepted his Oscar for The Writing’s On the Wall from the James Bond film Spectre, Smith seemed to think that he might have been the first openly gay man to have won an Oscar.
Black had clearly won one before him and both Elton John and Stephen Sondheim had won in the same category as Smith in previous years.
Neither Smith or Daley has commented on Black’s tweet which received nearly 3,000 likes within two hours.
