Daytime Soap Clip: Noah comes through for Luke as a friend as a jealous Reid prepares to leave town

http://triptotheouthouse.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/luke-and-noah7.jpg

http://www.soapbox1.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/ReidOliverATWT.jpgNoah Mayer had been a selfish jerk ever since he went blind.

But now that he has his sight back, Noah (Jake Silbermann) is showing a maturity that makes you remember why Luke (Van Hansis) loved him in the first place.

Despite his own feelings for Luke, he sees that his ex-boyfriend is now enamored with Dr. Reid Oliver (Eric Sheffer Stevens).

And since those two can’t seem to have a simple conversation that reveals what they are really feeling, it ends up falling to Noah to help clear up a misunderstanding between them that has Reid packing his bags and leaving town.

I gotta say though, it’s so annoying that two weeks of the precious airtime Luke and Reid get has to be wasted on this stupid storyline involving Reid having to choose between his job and Luke.

These two have not even had an overnight date!

The writers could not even let the romance DEVELOP before Reid has to make this agonizing decision? That’s why we don’t care or buy any of it. That, plus it’s just plain stupid.

Hospital Chief of Staff Bob Hughes really would risk losing his most brilliant surgeon by giving him this stupid ultimatum?

But the one good thing is that Reid is back to his snarky self. As he’s packing boxes at the hospital, he asks Bob Hughes: “Why is it impossible to escape from this hell hole without running into every single person who has driven me crazy since the first day I got here?”

2 Remarks

  1. Noah hasn’t been selfish, and the only jerk I see lately is Luke. Well, and Reid. How easily and quickly did you expect Noah to adjust to being blind? Add to that the fact that he was being manipulated and emotionally abused by an unethical doctor and betrayed by his boyfriend. Unfortunately, as usual, the writers never gave Noah the airtime to properly convey all of what he must have been going through, although I think Jake Silbermann did a wonderful job with what he was given. Also, you seem to have forgotten that it was Luke’s irrational jealousy that in part caused Noah to be blinded in the first place, so I’ve understood his anger. You’re not a Noah fan, but you can’t sympathize at all with how scared he must have been? Noah has had no family whatsoever to support him in any way; he’s alone in the world, unlike Luke who has relatives and support everywhere he turns. For reasons I’ll never understand, the writers have kept Noah almost completely isolated and disconnected. It’s equally confusing that they’ve kept Luke a child in so many ways; he’s self-indulgent and spoiled and juvenile. Even Van H. has said so, LOL. Lucinda is the only character on the show who has ever told Luke what an infant he is. Last week I read a column from a soap journalist who called Luke out for being lazy & self absorbed. It was nice to see someone in the soap press finally acknowledge what so many fans have been saying lately: Luke isn’t perfect and Noah isn’t the Antichrist, and much like me, she wonders why two intelligent, highly motivated men like Noah and Reid would even want a slacker like Luke. Yes, he’s attractive, but really not much more than that at this point in his life. Looking at Luke objectively, the writers have sort of made him a loser.

I used to love Luke; his story is what brought me to ATWT and it’s what kept me watching, but now he just might be my least favorite character on the show.

  2. I’m responding to the comment above. Luke has been the punching bag for the better part of 50 episodes, he’s been there and been there for noah only to have him yell at him or jerk away. i like Noah, he’s a sweet character who would never be such an ass. obviously there’s going to be some type of emotional reaction from him, but he’s a total dick to his ‘true love’. On part of the accident. that’s what it was, an accident. Luke and Noah understand each other, so shouldn’t Noah know from past experiences (i.e. Brian and Maddie) that Luke’s jealous? everybody gets jealous, it’s not such a flaw to have a character get angry when that professor flat out told him he’d go after his boy friend. It kinda pisses me off that Noah keeps saying, “ohhh, i don’t have anybody. no one at all.” when Luke is right there, all the time, willing to give up anything for him and he just keeps going with this self pity thing. And i like Luke being childish, it’s cute. that’s his hubris, he’s immature, alot of people are. noah’s problem is that he’s selfish, if he doesn’t feel like being with Luke he says, “we need some time apart.” it’s insensitive, but it’s realistic. just like Luke’s immaturity. Luke’s lazy? dude, he’s bopping around all over the place. he takes care of the kids, his parents, Noah, Grimauldi shipping, the foundation…he takes time off alot though, i’ll give you that. but not self absorbed, he wants to be happy like everyone else, but his happiness depends on everyone around him. he cares about everyone and wants to take care of them all and have them close, i don’t see that as self absorbed. why would you want Luke? (aside from him being adorable, hot, and one of the few characters who can make me laugh besides Reid) maybe it’s because he’s different from them. if you were both so strongly motivated towards your own goals, you’d go your separate ways to achieve them. Noah wants Luke to go to LA with him, just drop everything and go. Luke can do that. and Reid…he’s an accomplished surgeon, done. he’s a complete ass and has very few friends and no social life, Luke’s friends with everyone and has nothing but time. Duh. Looking at Luke objectively: He’s a sweet, funny, handsome guy, he commits himself fully to relationships, he has a ton of money (which isn’t a crime, he just has that life) which allows him to be set for life, he doesn’t need a job, and he has human flaws. i like the realism. Noah objectively: Driven, but he needs to be pushed to do things (Luke’s job) he gives himself wholly when he’s needed, good hearted, and totally hot. Reid objectively:Brilliant surgeon who’s achieve all of his goals, lacks a social life because he’s been working single mindedly towards those goals, self absorbed, sarcastic, and good looking. did i nail it?
Luke’s story is almost the only one worth watching, his character’s engaging because he makes his own problems and involves himself in others then makes me laugh and cry with him. He’s clearly my fave.

you know who i hate though? Lily Snyder, god she’s an awful character. i’m annoyed every time she speaks, i didn’t like her as either women that played her. unlucky for them they had to play such an unlikable character.
on the other hand i love Holden Snyder, he’s like the foil to Luke because he’s very even minded and doesn’t let his emotions always get the bast of him. that and his hair hasn’t changed since the show started, ahaha.

Luke’s hair: sometimes i wonder what the stylists are thinking. you can tell when a hair cut is flattering on someone. some cuts make you look better and some take away. I appreciate how they matured his cut as he got older, he couldn’t keep that boy cut forever. Best cuts: he first boyish hair cut, the one during the election and Brian saga, (BEST) the one during his second kiss with Reid, and a couple scenes with Reid where it’s not too gelled up, just kinda teased up. Worst cuts: When Ameera was there and they randomly gelled it off to the side one day, when it’s super long during Noah’s blind phase (not that he looked bad, it just wasn’t as flattering), when ever they gel it back (he just had too much hair to do that) and a couple scenes with Reid when the sides are down and normal but the stuck the front straight up (it was disconnected)
