Danny Roberts talks to Greg In Hollywood about going from “The Real World: New Orleans” to “DTLA”

The new series DTLA premieres on Logo on Oct. 24 and one of the cast members may look familiar to fans of MTV’s The Real World.

Danny Roberts was a member of the cast of The Real World: New Orleans back in 2000. His participation was especially memorable because Danny was dating a US Army Captain named Paul Dill whose face had to be blurred out on screen because the military’s anti-gay Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy was still in place.

‘I’m all grown up now,’ he told me at the DTLA premiere in Hollywood on Monday night. “That was a looooong time ago.”

Danny, now 35, helped DTLA get a lot of attention when it was in the fundraising stage because of a steamy shower scene featuring his massage therapist character and series lead Darryl Stephens of Noah’s Arc fame.

‘It was quite the steamy introduction into this project,’ he said, laughing. ‘That was my first scene that we filmed.’

Danny spent many of his post-Real World years speaking at schools across the country on diversity in sexuality, coming out and Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

He had appeared in an episode of Dawson’s Creek soon after The Real World ended and hosted a DVD collection of gay short films. But those were many years ago and it is only now that he is dipping his toe back into showbiz waters.

“It is quite the fun escape from my regular life,” he said. ”I live in Seattle so I only come down on weekends (for filming) from time to time.”

5 Remarks

  1. Thanks for the update on him. He kinda looks like a blonder Chris Evans.

  2. Danny was hot then and he’s even hotter now. Can’t wait to check out DTLA!

  3. I convenienced, I have programed DTLA on LOGO Wednesday, Oct 24th the dvr in case I miss something or for replay.

  4. @Johnny-he also looks like he could be the very hot Sam Jeager’s brother.

  5. I love reading your blog. There is always a lot of great reporting and updating on LGBT topics. However, must you insist on always throwing up photos of yourself with a celebrity? As a reader, I understand the Hollywood events that you attend and the news that you are reporting, but your personal photo posting comes across as pretentious. If this was called “Greg Meets Celebrities” I would understand the need to post the pics and use them as your title banner. Yes, we get it. You have met lots of celebrities – kudos to you. It seems as if you are trying to prove to high school bullies, ‘Look at me now!’ Just my two cents.
