Countdown to Outfest 2010: Out actress Meredith Baxter to headline “Coming Out in Hollywood” panel
Outfest 2010, the 28th Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival begins its run on July 8.
Each day until then, I will be previewing the event with interviews, movie reviews, and news about panels and other events. [All the preview articles will then appear again in a single round-up post on July 8].
The festival announced today that actress Meredith Baxter of Family Ties fame will participate in the Coming Out In Hollywood panel.
Miss Baxter came out publicly last December on The Today Show and has quickly emerged as an intelligent and confident voice for LGBT equality. It should be fascinating to hear her thoughts on now being an out actress after all those years spent playing the mother of Alex P. Keaton and, before that, a single mother on the acclaimed ABC drama Family.
Also on the panel will be veteran publicist Howard Bragman who handled the recent coming out of country music singer Chely Wright as well as several other celebrities. They will discuss the ongoing “in or out?” debate the got unprecedented attention recently after a Newsweek article stated that out actors cannot convincingly play straight roles.
