Coming Out Day Gallery 2012: Anderson Cooper, Matt Bomer, Kristy McNichol, Sam Champion and more

Since I began my first LGBT blog back in 2006, it’s been a tradition that I do a Coming Out Day gallery of every celebrity who is open about their sexuality.

The first year got a real boost because we had just had Lance Bass, TR Knight and Neil Patrick Harris come out in quick succession.

Every year since, there has been a growing number of famous people making this public acknowledgement – so much so that for the first time, the gallery is limited to people who have come out in the past 12 months.

They are from the world of television and Broadway, broadcast news and sports and it is thrilling to have them step up.

This year’s gallery: Good Morning America weather anchor Sam Champion; White Collar and Magic Mike star Matt Bomer; CNN anchor and talk show host Anderson Cooper; singer Frank Ocean; retired actress Kristy McNichol of Family and Little Darlings fame; The New Normal and The Book of Mormon star Andrew Rannells; Star Trek star Zachary Quinto; singer-songwriter Mika; Former owner of Pittsburgh Pirates Kevin McClatchy; Emmy winner Jim Parsons of The Big Bang Theory; Food Network star Anne Burrell; actor Paul Iacono of TV’s The Hard Times of RJ Berger; soccer pro David Testo; professional boxer Orlando Cruz; US soccer star Megan Rapinoe; journalist Steve Kornacki; former NFL player Wade Davis; X-Men character Northstar, actress Maureen Garrett of Guiding Light fame.

Is there anyone else of note who has come out in the past 12 months? I can expand the gallery throughout the day!

  1. I believe it’s Steve Kornacki not David. I had no idea he was gay.

  2. Here is some exciting news: Bomer is slated to make a guest appearance on “The New Normal” with Rannells, playing his ex-boyfriend.

  3. Greg:

The cute & very intelligent Journalist from MSNBC is Steve (not David) Kornacki. I love a cute gay political junkie!

  4. @Ron-Wish Ben Labolt was on our team;-)

  5. Northstar’s been out for DECADES.

  6. Faen-I agree!

  7. Sean Maher.

  8. Joanna Johnson from The Bold and the Beautiful.
