Cheyenne Jackson cast in Ira Sachs’ latest film

Writer-director Ira Sachs, who received great acclaim and an Independent Spirit Award nomination for his most recent film Keep the Lights On, has signed Cheyenne Jackson to be in new movie.

According to Deadline, Jackson has joined joining Michael Gambon, Alfred Molina, Kelly Reilly and Tracy Letts in Love Is Strange.

Gambon and Molina play Ben and Jorge, a couple who after 38 years together finally marry at City Hall in Manhattan. Trouble begins on return from their honeymoon when Jorge gets fired and the couple is forced to temporarily separate. Ben moves in with his nephew and wife (Letts and Reilly) and Jorge with Ted (Jackson) and his partner Nahlin, both police officers.

Jackson was most recently seen as a spurned lover/protege in Steven Soderbergh’s Liberace biopic, Behind the Candelabra and is currently working on an independent film adaptation of Richard Alfieri’s Six Dance Lessons In Six Weeks opposite Gena Rowlands.

‘I think the recognition that [Keep the Lights On] has received has made people more interested to see what I do next,’ Sachs told me in an interview in February.

Unlike the darker themes of Keep the Lights On, the new film will be about the lighter side of love and be reflective of the happy life he has built with artist Boris Torres.  They have been a couple for five years and are parents of twins.

‘We started a relationship with one commitment which was to be honest with each other,’ Sachs says. ‘After five years, there’s still a quality of intimacy and trust and optimism about our relationship which is something that my new film reflects for the first time. I’ve already made a lot of films about the pain and torture of intimacy.’

I’m looking forward to seeing this film. Cheyenne Jackson is such a talented man and has proven himself time and time again on stage. Everything about him says, “leading man.”
