Cher blasts Donald Trump for claiming to be supportive of gays: ‘Oh come on’
Cher isn’t buying Donald Trump’s statement that he ‘will do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens from the violence and oppression of the hateful foreign ideology.’
The entertainment icon spent last weekend holding high-priced LGBT fundraisers for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in Miami, Provincetown and Fire Island.
She laughed when she was asked about what Trump said at the Republican National Convention.
‘Oh come on,’ Cher said Tuesday on The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell.
‘He has says those letters (LGBTQ) like a child that is just learning the alphabet. And then pokes his finger in the air for “Q.” He is the most disingenuous man I’ve ever seen. And I want to tell you: my people will not believe him for a minute.’
Her ‘people’ would be the gay men who have boosted the Oscar winner’s career with its various ups and downs for more than 50 years. Cher is also, of course, the mother of transgender actor and activist Chaz Bono.
‘I care for all people … America has been so great for me. I was a poor, poor child, I had dyslexia. Nothing would say that I would succeed in this country – and I did. And I fear for those (LGBT) people and not just because of my son. I fear what they will do to those people – to my people.’
Cher also mentioned Trump’s participation in the recent Pastors and Pews event in Orlando sponsored by the anti-LGBTI American Renewal Project. The event took place only seven miles from Pulse Nightclub and on the two-month anniversary of 49 people being shot to death there.
‘How does he go from that meeting to telling my people that he will protect them?’
She added, “I fear for what they will do to those people–to my people.”

Funny how Trump talked about FOREIGN ideology but nothing about the religious nutwads we have to deal with in the United States.
A huge thank you to Cher for speaking up for us, bless her heart. Just one more reason for me to love her.
