Chandler Massey wins second consecutive Daytime Emmy for performance as Will Horton on “Days”

Chandler Massey has won his second consecutive Daytime Emmy Award for his performance as gay teen Will Horton on the NBC soap Days of Our Lives.

Among the competition in his category of outstanding performance by a younger actor was Freddie Smith who plays his boyfriend Sonny Kiriakis on the show. It was Smith’s third nomination and Massey’s third.

Backstage, he paid tribute to Smith describing him as ‘an absolutely phenomenal actor and a phenomenal person. I’m lucky to be able to work alongside of him.’

He called Will and Sonny ‘a super couple in training.’

The scenes that won for the actor are from last year’s emotional and gripping coming out story. Will kisses another guy for the first time, freaks out a little bit, then goes to his supportive grandmother Marlena (Deidre Hall) for a heart-to-heart.

Days of Our Lives also won the Daytime Emmy in the coveted category of outstanding drama.

Below is a reel of the Emmy scenes that won Chandler his second Emmy:

One Remark

    Jack Sprat says:

Well-deserved second win for Chandler. Chandler completely re-fashioned the character of Will Horton and made it his very own, infusing, I think, much of his own self into the role. (Hey, his natural good looks don’t hurt, but they can’t be said to be the reason for his win, nor can the fact that he plays a gay role. Other daytime actors playing gay roles, including even the beloved Freddie Smith, have not won.) Above all, Chandler’s acting comes across as very ****sincere***** and I believe **that’s** what makes him so enjoyable to watch.
