Celeb Instagram: World AIDS Day Edition
Living with #HIV today wasn't the same as it was a few decades ago. Coming out as #HIVPositive in the 90's meant grappling with scrutiny and fear from the media, which perpetuated such inaccuracies of the virus's symptoms — that HIV could be transmitted through air or water (untrue), or that it was essentially a death sentence (in today's terms, also untrue). Though we have made progress in minimizing the stigmas around HIV since then, there's still A LOT of work to be done, not just with regard to dampening its perception, but also recognizing its increased prevalence in the world in the past few years, and what we're going to do to eradicate this epidemic. Today, this #WorldAIDSDay, I, HIV Poz and healthy, encourage you all to show your support for continuing to change the narrative around HIV and AIDS. Also, if you're in the Los Angeles area, I'll be speaking tonight at "Voices of Hope", presented by @theadvocatemag; attendance is free, RSVP is recommended.
