In this new NBC sitcom to debut this fall, Bryan (Andrew Rannells) and David (Justin Bartha) are a Beverly Hills couple and they have it all.

Well, almost.

With successful careers and a committed and loving partnership, the one thing missing is a baby. And just when they think the stars will never align, enter Goldie (Georgia King), an extraordinary young woman with a checkered past. A Midwestern waitress and single mother looking to escape her dead-end life and small-minded grandmother (Ellen Barkin), Goldie decides to change everything and move to L.A. with her precocious 8-year-old daughter. Desperate and broke –- but also fertile -– Goldie quickly becomes the guys’ surrogate and quite possibly the girl of their dreams. Ryan Murphy serves as creator/executive producer and director along with executive producer/creator/writer Ali Adler and executive producer Dante Di Loreto.

So I apparently was one of the few people who caught a handful of episodes of his CBS drama A Gifted Man which has just been canceled by CBS.

It was expected since the series did struggle in the ratings but I always enjoyed the show – especially when Patrick’s shirt was off!

So shallow, I know.

Apparently Patrick is relieved sharing via Twitter that he “couldn’t be happier” by the news, adding, “As good as it was (sometimes) it was not what I signed on for.”

I’m not sure what he signed up for but I liked the show.

It’s not likely that we’ll be seeing Patrick in another CBS show soon.

“So…shocking to no one, [A Gifted Man] is done,” he wrote on Twitter. “Found out via email…and not from the network. Stay classy. Thanks to AGM fans! Great cast/crew!”

This wonderful LGBT non-profit works to prevent youths from killing themselves. We are seeing, right now, the hatred they have to face every day for being who they are. The North Carolina pastor who told his flock to “punch” effeminate boys – and no one in that congregation objected – is just one example of what they face.

Cooper will appear on the show on Friday, May 18 alongside New York Times columnist Thomas L. Friedman and NBC News Capitol Hill Correspondent Kelly O’Donnell.

ABC has canceled the delicious GCB, show that had one of the best casts on television and should win Annie Potts an Emmy.

I can’t say how disappointed I am. I really wanted to spend more time with these characters – especially Annie’s outrageous Gigi Stopper who was this Designing Woman alum’s best character since Mary Jo Shivley.

Also wonderful: Mark Deklin and Miriam Shor as a married couple – he was gay and she was his beard – who were so good together. I hope these gifted actors land another series soon.

And of course there was that tiny force of nature Kristin Chenoweth who made the most of her character of Carlene Cockburn.

I’ll miss these characters very much and will order the DVD set as soon as it comes out on June 12.

GCB averaged less than 6 million viewers per week during its 10 episode run on Sunday nights. ABC also canceled The River and the Ashley Judd series Missing.

The comedy focuses on a blended family created by a gay couple (played by Andrew Rannells and Justin Bartha) and a surrogate mother.

Rannells is best known for his role in the smash Broadway musical The Book of Mormon which earned him an Tony Award nomination.

Bartha has had key roles in two successful movie franchises: The Hangover and its sequel and National Treasure and its sequel.

Also in the cast are Georgia King, Bebe Wood, and Ellen Barkin.

Now I’d like to share something else he said in regards to gay marriage and why he thinks public attitudes have shifted: I think Will & Grace probably did more to educate the American public than almost anything anybody has done so far. People fear that is different and now they’re beginning to understand.”

Will & Grace stars Eric McCormack and Debra Messing both took to Twitter to react to Biden’s comment.

Wrote McCormack, an outspoken proponent for gay marriage for many years: “Three cheers for VP Joe Biden! Fantastic interview. Now who ELSE is gonna step up?”

Wrote Messing, currently starring in NBC’s Smash: “I could not be more proud. Thank you Mr. Vice President for yer support and yer words about W&G. #humbled”

Sean Hayes released this statement:  “On behalf of everyone who worked on ‘Will and Grace’, we thank Vice President Biden for his comments regarding our show as well as his support for equality for gay Americans and everyone in the LGBT community.”

GLAAD President Herndon Graddick released this comment about Biden: “Today, Vice President Biden took an important step toward joining former Presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, former Vice Presidents Al Gore and Dick Cheney, and a growing majority of Americans who support marriage equality for their gay and lesbian friends, family and neighbors. It is significant that Vice President Biden spoke about the importance of Will & Grace in his journey toward acceptance, since we know that the media plays a key role in helping people understand that denying any loving couple the chance at happiness and security that comes only through marriage is not only hurtful, it’s downright un-American.”

I did see last week’s premiere and do think the how has great promise although I still think it needs to gel a bit more.

Anyway, the cute singer Lance Bass dropped by on the famous D-lister.

It’s always good to see each other because on the first season of Kathy’s My Life on the D-List show way back then, a still closeted Bass could be seen at her house for a game night.

So these two go way back!

She suffered a fall on the set and is expected to be out of commission for at least a week.

The show was scheduled to have a live taping before a studio audience this week.

Counter Culture revolves around three sisters — Billie (Kerri Kenney), Nonie (Burke) and Joyce (Martindale) — running their family diner together in West Texas who find that sibling dynamics are always getting in the way of getting the job done. Roberts co-stars as the sisters’ aunt.

Wishing the great Delta a very speedy recovery. She is a major comedic talent as we learned during her five delicious seasons as Suzanne Sugarbaker on Designing Women.

With her Designing Women co-star Annie Potts back in a series with a juicy role on ABC’s GCB, it would be great to be able to see Delta back on a weekly basis as well.

She has starred in several other sitcoms including CBS’s Women of the House which had her revive her Suzanne Sugarbaker character, ABC’s Delta and NBC’s DAG all which only lasted one season each.

She was talking to reporters about her new Bravo show Kathy which premieres on Thursday night.

The network certainly needs her energy and intelligence.

My favorite thing she said this morning was that she wasn’t planning to have any members of the Real Housewives casts on her show I’m so over all of them!)

‘I want to be able to talk smack about them which I can’t do if they are sitting in a swivel chair a few feet away from me,’ she said. ‘I prefer to talk about people behind their back … I prefer to wait until people leave the room then I just let it rip.’

The sketch that has everyone buzzing – and with good reason -was Taram Killam’s parody of Andy Cohen.
Andy, a Bravo executive who hosts all those Real Housewives reunion specials and Watch What Happens Live, certainly wasn’t handled with kid gloves even though NBC and Bravo are part of the same corporate family.

I thought it was absolutely brutal, and hilarious.

But Cohen doesn’t appear to be bothered – at least not publicly. He writes on Twitter: “OMG the one night I go to bed early I’m lampooned on SNL?! Great job I am flattered! #ImLikeAShark #VeryCute.”

But on the bright side, it does give Rosie O’Donnell the time to do other things like pop up on her pal Fran Drescher’s new sitcom Happily Divorced next month.

Rosiue will play Fran’s (Drescher) high school friend Katie O’Grady, who “helps Fran learn a lesson about her relationship with her overbearing mother Dori,” according to TV Guide.

These two go way back.

During the first season of Rosie’s syndicated talk show back in the 90s, she used to have Fran’s parents on periodically to do restaurant reviews. They were a hoot!

Rosie also guested on a memorable episode of Fran’s first sitcom, The Nanny, as a cab driver. The episode was memorable for Rosie’s appearance, of course, but even more so because it also featured Elizabeth Taylor in a rare guest spot.

It will be good to see these two together again.

Martina Navratilova will have to be content with her nine Wimbledon singles trophies because she won’t be adding the Dancing With the Stars mirror ball trophy to her collection of prizes.

The mighty Martina was the first celebrity to be elimination from the competition this season after a poor performance this week doing the jive.

I was afraid this would happen but at least I won’t have to watch the show anymore this season without any LGBT contestants remaining. I reserve the right to check out sexy William Levy’s performances on YouTube though!

“It was an amazing experience,” she said of her short stint on the show. “I just wish it had lasted longer. I gave it everything I had, but I blew it [Monday].”

While Martina’s Fox Trot last week and Jive this week failed to impress judges – or viewers it turns out – the show did give people the opportunity to see just how glamorous Martina can be when she wants to be.

“I’m sorry, it’s just that you’re very different from all the other dates Andrew has brought home,” a shocked Bree says to Marybeth.

Poor Marybeth. She had recently lost $00 pounds and met Andrew on her way out of an Overeaters Anonymous as he was leaving his Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.

What a pair.

Bree demands an explanation from her son and he says: “Remember how you always said being gay was just a phase and I always just needed to meet the right girl? Well, you were right. Be happy for me.”

Bree, who when Andrew came out to her said, “I’d love you even if you were a murderer,” thankfully has evolved.

“Homosexuality is not a choice,” she tells Andrew. “You were born this way. It took me a long time to accept it. … Honey, you’re here, you’re queer and I’m used to it.”

Determined to break things up and let Marybeth know what she’s getting into, Bree invites all of Andrew’s gay friends over for a surpise engagement party. They are all a very extreme stereotype which Andrew is not.

Anyway, Marybeth knows all about it telling Bree: “I know Andrew is gay. We’ve never actually made love and he has a picture of Michael Phelps next to his bed. … He’s sweet fun and I just thought I could do a lot worse.”

So what is in it for Andrew?

Marybeth’s money.

Andrew took a loss on his house, he lost his job and can’t find another one and has loads of credit card debt.

“That marriage really could have helped me out,” Andrew tells Bree.

Well, hopefully we’ll see more of Andrew in the last three episodes and, hopefully, he will have a little more common sense!

He and comedian David Walliams were promoting the upcoming season of Britain’s Got Talent on ITV’s Jonathan Ross Show when Wallaims joked: “The main question I get is, Is Simon gay? Even my mum asks. She says, He’s nice. Is he gay?”

Simon did not laugh it off and instead tried to change the subject. He started talking about his sleeping habits which usually consist of staying up until 5 a.m. or so and rising at noon.

Wallaims used this bit of information to crack another gay joke: “At 12 o’clock at night you’re working quite hard – because that’s when the lady boys come round.”

Uh boy.

Simon did recently break up with his latest girlfriend. I think this one was actually a fiancee.

So what do you think? Should Simon have a better sense of humor about it? Was Wallaims way out of line?

Last October, I posted about what my dream cast would be for the television remake of Steel Magnolias which will have an all-black cast.

I had Viola Davis as M’Lynn with Angela Bassett or Alfre Woodard as other possibilities. I wanted Diana Ross to return to movies and take on the role of Truvvy and for her daughter, Tracee Ellis Ross, to play Annelle. I thought Jenifer Lewis would be a delicious Ouiser and that Loretta Devine was born to play Clairee.

Well, the cast has just been announced and NO ONE I suggested was chosen! Well, the great Alfre Woodard is in the cast but in a different role: She will play grumpy Ouiser, the role originated by Shirley MacLaine in the 1989 movie.

Queen Latifah has been cast in the pivotal role of M’Lynn which Sally Field so memorably played in the original and Phylicia Rashad will be Clairee, the role Olympia Dukakis nailed in the first film.

Truvvy, played by Dolly Parton before, will be played by the always good Jill Scott and this bit of casting I’m very excited about: the role of outsider Annelle will be played by Adepero Oduye who made such an impression as the lead in last year’s acclaimed indie flick Pariah.

And finally, the role of Shelby which made Julia Roberts a star and earned her an Oscar nomination. This time around, Condola Rashad will take on the role. She has done guest spots on Glee and Smash and, well, she’s the daughter of Phylicia Rashad! If she’s half as talented as her Tony Award winning mom, we are in for a real treat!

The film, which will begin production in April, is being produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron and Sony Pictures TV and directed by Kenny Leon, who directed the 2008 ABC movie A Raisin In The Sun. which starred Phylicia Rashad.

It will air on Lifetime TV later this year.

Well, word as just come that OWN has canceled The Rosie Show after less than six months.

C’mon!

I wish they would have just let Rosie do the show from New York where she could get better guests and build an audience. She is such a good interviewer and strong commentator and someone you like spending time with each day.

‘It was a great year for me,’ Rosie said in a statement. ‘I wish the show was able to attract more viewers — but it did not. So I am headed back to my home in New York – with gratitude. On we go!’

Here’s what Oprah Winfrey had to say: ‘As I have learned in the last 15 months, a new network launch is always a challenge and ratings grow over time as you continue to gather an audience. I’m grateful to Rosie and the dedicated Rosie Show team for giving it their all.’

Greg In Hollywood fave Christopher Gorham, who we love as Auggie on Covert Affairs, returns to comedy tonight with a guest spot on TV Land’s Hot in Cleveland.

Chris, who with his wife Anel has been very publicly in support of marriage equality, plays a missionary who encounters the Hot women – Betty White, Valerie Bertinelli, Wendie Malick and Jane Leeves – at a cabin.

These photos of Chris and Miss White may or may not be part of the episode. They seem to be part of an escalating Twitter showdown between him and Zachary Levi who got to smooch with Betty during her 90th birthday special last month.

They played roommates on the ABC sitcom for five seasons with the late John Ritter before Somers was fired in 1981 a salary dispute. The series continued on for three more years with Priscilla Barnes replacing Somers.

Somers invited DeWitt to be a guest on her web series Suzanne Somers: Breaking Through and they had a nice trip down memory lane.

“I really never wanted any attention, which is why becoming famous, I just tried to hide as much as possible,” DeWitt said. “I’ve often said to friends that when the press would come into the room, John would be hysterical, you would graciously hold court and I would hide.”

“I couldn’t figure it out!” Somers replied. “Why don’t you want to be famous? It’s so incredible to be famous. Not many people get to be famous.”

DeWitt left showbiz for decades after the show ended and always seemed to hold a grudge against Somers for putting the show in peril. Somers, of course, went on to star for seven seasons on the hit sitcom Step By Step, wrote dozens of health, beauty and cookbooks and become a hugely successful entrepreneur.

“We had very different approaches to our careers, we had very different needs,” Dewitt said. “I did not have a child that I was supporting on my own. I didn’t have a business head, so I didn’t understand someone who did.”

“But I respect the training so much and I do want you to know how much I learned from watching you,” Somers told DeWitt. “You were the first one to tell me we were doing farce and I thought we were talking about farts or something.”

MTV and its sister network Logo are preparing an It Gets Better special to air on Feb. 21.

It will be hosted by syndicated columnist Dan Savage.

The one-hour special, which will air on both channels, will focus on the struggles of three LGBT youth.

Savage will be joined on the It Gets Better TV special by Zachary Quinto, Margaret Cho, Chaz Bono and Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine, according to Entertainment Weekly.

It’s a stark contrast to American Idol where gay contestants like Adam Lambert did not come out until after the competition was over.

‘It just seems crazy not to,’ Burnett told me during the TV Critics Association Winter Press Tour last week.

Levine also weighed in for me: ‘I think we always supported and nurtured all the amazingly talented people who have been in the show regardless of what they do in their private time.’
