In the past six months, you’ve kind of wished he would just give her a break and forgive her already for sleeping with his ex-stepfather while she was still married to his soon-to-be ex-stepfather.

But Sami’s severe narcissism makes you realize how maddening she can be and why her complete self-absorption has done severe damage to her son and their relationship.

In these scenes from yesterday’s episode of Days of Our Lives, Sami’s ex EJ and her other ex Lucas (Will’s dad) are more focused on Will and what he is going through than Sami who is more concerned about not being the first to know and what her not knowing says about her as a mother.

But Lucas has been pretty stellar and pretty honest with his son who can have no doubt that his father loves him.

The performances continue to be first-rate with Chandler Massey showing us why he deserves to win the Emmy!

Today’s scenes feature their reactions.

“I’ve been wanting to tell you guys for awhile. I was afraid and I didn’t know how,” a vulnerable Will tells his parents.

Sami, of course, makes it all about herself.

“I don’t understand. Why would you say that you’re gay? I’m your mother, I would know,” she says. “You have some crazy idea in your head that you’re gay.”

She says Will he is “going through some confusion” but Will’s dad, Lucas, knows that’s not the truth.

“He’s not confused,” he tells his ex-wife. “He’s trying to tell us the truth about himself.”

Sami won’t look at Will and says “I just can’t do this right now” then flees the apartment.

With Sami out of the way, dad and son have a very moving heart to heart. Lucas asks a lot of the questions you want a parent to ask when you come out to them: “Are you sure?” “How long have you known?” He asked about the ex-girlfriends and if he was “pretending” with them. When Will tells him he’d been ‘trying so hard to be straight,” his dad says: “I’m really sorry that you had to go through that alone.”

Lucas later admits to Will that he “kind of had a feeling that you might be gay” after seeing him with Sonny awhile back and asks if he and Sonny are a couple.

Will laughs and says: “Sonny and I are just friends. Just because two guys are gay doesn’t make them a couple.”

Meanwhile, Sami is having a heart-to-heart of her own with an unlikely confidant: her ex-husband EJ.

“I feel like I’m the world’s worst mother right now,” she tells EJ. “It never crossed my mind. I feel like an idiot.”

EJ has some very perceptive things to say about Will being gay.

“This is not about you,” he tells Sami. “This is about William right now. He needs you. … Go to William Samantha and listen to him. Listen.”

When Sami tries to blame Will being gay in her own poor parenting, EJ says: “Don’t be absurd. People are born gay. You can’t control whether they’re attracted to a man or a woman. … If poor mothering led to children being gay, then all of [Will's parental grandmother] Kate’s children would be running around waving rainbow flags at pride festivals.”

Sami makes clear to EJ that she did not run from the room because she is rejecting Will: “I love my son. It doesn’t matter what his sexuality is. … I should’ve known. I couldn’t stand there and face the fact that I failed him again.”

The cast, in particular Chandler Massey as Will, are top-notch in these scenes. He straddles the bridge between snarky and vulnerable in a very believable way. Even though Will is emotional, Massey conveys to the audience how much Will has grown. He accepts himself and doesn’t feel like there is anything wrong with being gay.

“It’s just who I am,” he says.

It’s a powerful message to send.

It happens in dramatic fashion with lots of build up.

We will have to wait until today’s episode to see Sami’s self-absorbed reaction! I’ll post it as quickly as it becomes available!

Will confronts evil Stefano for the “death” of his grandmother, aunt and others.

He later finds out that these family members are not dead and there is are tearful reunions – especially between Will and Marlena.

It’s a daytime soap so these things are good drama I guess but it’s ridiculous to have any circumstance where you would let a family think six of their loved ones are dead.

He thinks his beloved grandmother Marlena has been killed in a blast along with five other people and he just about loses his mind.

If you think this leads him to reconcile with his mother, Sami, no dice.

He lashes out at her even as she grieves the loss of her mother, sister and estranged husband.

It makes you not like Will and I wish his reaction had not been written that way but hey, they’re not really dead anyway. Will post scenes of the “memorial service” and the reunion as soon as they become available.

I also attended a Days of Our Lives event at the Paley Center in Beverly Hills Wednesday night and hope to have a recap posted for you later today.

But tensions lurk beneath the happy facade and Will remains livid with hos mother.

“I know that something’s going on with him, something that I have nothing to do with and I can’t help him,” Sami says to Lucas.

This is just a warm up to when Will comes out to his parents – then things will get interesting again. We hope!

I know things will perk up again once Will comes out to his parents but for now, we are dealing with him being ex-girlfriend Gabi’s buddy and EJ’s assistant.

Personally, I want to see him check in with grandma Marlena and gay buddy Sonny more often.

The show has changed writers so you just never know how they will handle this very promising storyline.

It’s nice that Will comes out to Gabi in this episode, something he handles well and with sensitivity and directness.

But it happens in the context of Gabi plotting to break up hunky Chad and his girlfriend Melanie. Okay, I can see the appeal of Chad who is quite a catch. But Gabi has, in the past, been a very smart and self-aware girl. Why turn her into an idiot?

Well, at least it’s not as bad as the computer hacking storyline!

Will shows up at Sonny’s coffee house with some news: he’s gay.

This is not news for Sonny who tells Will he had an idea “when I caught you in a liplock with my buddy.”

Will jokes: “That’s gay?”

What I love about these scenes is how giddy Will seems to be about it all. It’s a very accurate portrayal by Chandler Massey because once you accept yourself, coming out to your friends is a lot of fun.

But your family is another matter!

Will asks Sonny for advice on that. He wants to tell his dad but is adamant about not telling his mother, Sami.

“There’s no way she’s gonna know this about me,” he says. “She’s going to make this about her. She’s the most selfish and self-centered person in the world.”

Sonny encourages Will to not use this great discovery about himself “as a weapon” against his mom: “Do the right thing and let her know who you are. Not for her sake, but for yours.”

In the most touching moment of all, Will tells Sonny: “I wouldn’t have gotten this far without you. I watch you – and not in a creepy way – I watch you interact with people: strangers, family, gay people, straight people. It doesn’t matter to you because you’re the same person with everybody and you’re so easygoing and natural and I admire that so much. I want to be like you.”

Sonny, clearly moved, jokes: ‘I mean, I am pretty cool.”

The friends share a hug and, once again, there is a bit of an undercurrent there. Whether the writers will have them ever get together it’s not known but it sure would be lovely.

Some wonderful stuff between Will and his grandmother Marlena on Days of Our Lives last week.

We had previously seen Will acknowledge that he is gay – the first time he really seems to be at peace with that face.

He and Marlena have a follow-up conversation in these scenes that has some wonderful moments.

As they share a piece of cake, both feeling a little giddy, they talk about Will’s big step and about his future.

“I’m gay, I’m homosexual. I can’t believe saying those words make such a big difference but they do,” Will tells Marlena.

He’s beginning to think about what being gay will impact will mean for his life.

“Being gay does not mean you have to give up on your dreams,” Marlena says. “They may just take on a different shape.”

This is a big day in the life of our young Will Horton.

He’s becoming a man in so many ways – standing uo for himself, setting boundaries for his parents and grandparents and, most importantly, accepting himself as a gay man.

It is so fitting that Will would first make the statement about being a gay man to his grandmother Marlena. But before he does, she has a bit of a showdown with EJ over his motives when it comes to her grandson.

EJ tells her: “I want William to have the opportunity to be who he is without any fear of judgment. … I think we both know what I’m talking about. If I were going to take advantage of that situation, I already would have. But I haven’t and I won’t.”

Marlena feels she has no choice but to give EJ the benefit of the doubt but warns her former son-in-law to watch his step when it comes to her flesh and blood.

Over coffee, Will very politely but firmly tells Marlena to “back off and give me a little space” when it comes to EJ and his working for him.

His grandmother apologizes “for treating you like a 12 year old.” Will said he’s the one who’s sorry for being “rude” and adds: “I’m not trying to hurt your feelings. I think we both know that you’re the only person I can rely on. I don’t want that to change.”

Will shares with Marlena that he has been feeling “claustrophobic” with everyone from his grandma Kate to his father, his mother and EJ “lining up trying to tell me how to live my life.”

“When people are telling you how you should be comfortable with who you are, it makes it hard to be comfortable with who you are. The thing is though, I do know who I am and I’ve figured out what I want to be. I’m just not ready to broadcast that to the world yet.”

Marlena lets him know she will always love him and support him “no matter what.”

Asks Will: “Even if I’m a gay man?”

Marlena: “No matter what.”

Will, sips his coffee, smiles a bit and says: “Did you notice? I said I’m gay.”

The topic was Will Horton’s coming out story and Chandler Massey (Will), Diedre Hall (Marlena) and Allison Sweeney (Sami) were among the cast members there to discuss it.

Sadly, I could not be there because going on at EXACTLY the same time over at the Beverly Hilton Hotel was The Advocate’s 45th Anniversary party and it was a star-studded affair I could not miss.

I will look for coverage of the Days event on some other sites and provide you some coverage that way.

But, I do have some little scoops for you! Sources tell me that Will, who this week told Marlena he didn’t really think he was gay after all, takes the big step and COMES OUT on the episode airing April 4.

I don’t know the exact circumstances but I do know that the character of Neil, the guy who Will made out with over two episodes last month, will be returning for at least three episodes. (Neil is played by Jesse Kristofferson).

Hopefully, that means we will see some more of those liplocks!

When she tells her grandson that she is “unspeakably proud” of him, I got really choked up!

Will says, “I can’t believe my grandma’s my best friend.”

Will needed a wise friend on this day. He bumps into Marlena and tells her he doesn’t think he’s gay after all. She listens patiently then talks to him about what a beautiful life he can have – all the things he thinks he can’t have if he’s gay.

I know there are a lot of gay kids out there watching and these are words they need to hear because, sadly, they are not likely to be hearing it from their parents.

There’s a rivalry developing between Marlena and Will’s other grandmother, Kate, who wants to be his confidante. While she appears to be supportive, she doesn’t have Marlena’s connection with the young man.

Will has just told his grandmother, Marlena, that he thinks he might be gay. He says it like it’s a bad thing but she offers him another way to look at it.

“Honey, I think its okay,” she tells her grandson. “Remember that Lady Gaga song you played for me once where she said that sexuality is like the color of your eyes? It’s a thing that you’re born with. Well, I happen to agree with that. You were born with great good looks and charm and wisdom and a wonderful future. And if you’re figuring out something about yourself and acknowledging it, it’s nothing to be ashamed of. It’s a cause for celebration.”

This storyline is a cause for celebration as is this writing and these performances. Bravo to all – and thank you.

Will’s paternal grandmother Kate could not be more different from his maternal grandmother Marlena.

While Marlena has thoughtfully let Will confide in her about his sexuality at a pace in which he is comfortable, Kate essentially says to him: “I’ve always known you were gay.”

You hope she means it when she tells him she doesn’t “give a damn” about his sexuality and loves him no matter what. But Will admits nothing to her.

Later he runs into Marlena and looking very wide-eyed and vulnerable he says of his feelings: “You try and ignore them and you try pushing them away. But it’s not working for me. I think I might be gay.”

Will clearly does not have the same closeness with Kate as with grandmother Marlena but she seems to mean it when she says to her grandson: “I love you no matter what and I don’t give a damn what your sexual orientation is.”

He had missed the opening of Sonny’s new coffee house which was odd and tells his pal that his car battery had died.

I think it was probably a matter of Chandler Massey being on vacation.

Anyway, Sonny gives Will a ‘free coffee for life’ card but teasingly pulls it away from him.

This leads to a playful little moment that includes a moment where the two young gay men, just friends up to now, lock eyes. It signals an attraction that would be awfully cool to see explored!

Will’s dad, Lucas, walks in just as the moment was happening (of course, everyone is always walking in on everyone at just the right/wrong moment on DOOL in order to move things along very quickly).

Lucas says to Will when they sit down: ‘If someone else saw what I saw, they might get the wrong idea. I just need you to know there are people out there who might jump to the wrong conclusions. I know you’re straight, there’s just something about the way Sonny was looking at you.’

Sonny laughs and tells his dad: ‘I think you’re over-reacting. Sonny’s not an ax murderer dad, he’s just gay and he’s a great guy.’

Lucas says: ‘I have no problem with Sonny or anyone else who’s gay. I’m just saying if you choose to make it public, you’re going to run the risk of being treated like a second-class citizen by a lot of people. … It’s 2012, we probably shouldn’t be having this conversation anyway, it’s just I care about you and I don’t want to see you get hurt.’

Of course, Will’s other grandmother – the evil Kate who is Lucas’s mom – overhears the entire conversation – of course.

After Lucas leaves, she joins her grandson and says: ‘He was talking about Sonny, right? The fact is he could have easily been talking about you. Am I wrong here? And that’s what made you uncomfortable. Will, don’t worry. Your secret is safe with me.’

Somehow, I doubt that!

Sonny is Salem’s other gay character and he has teamed with his straight BFF, the hunky and funny Chad. These two have a great chemistry, a great bromance.

Sonny may have trouble ahead because one of his investors is a bit of a shady character!

Our Will Horton may be afraid to tell his parents that he is gay, but he isn’t afraid to stand up to them in other ways.

In these scenes from Friday’s show, his father Lucas barges in on him and EJ and demands that he quit working for his evil former stepfather.

But Will shows surprising loyalty to his blackmailer and pledges to keep his job – as well as his car and apartment!

I must say, there seems to be a bit of a gay undercurrent between Will and EJ that surfaces in the finals moments of these scenes. I’m sure it will never be explored but it is there.

So, here they are folks!

We see Will reunite with his dad and he tells his son he is worried about him.

“I’m your dad and I want you to know what you can tell me anything,” he says to Will.

But Will is clearly not going open up about his kissing a guy and his dealing with being gay.

Instead, they end up talking about Will working for EJ and wants him to quit – immediately. Will tells his dad that EJ is blackmailing him because he knows Will shot him.

Great soapy stuff!!!
