Candy Spelling on Tori: ‘I wish she would call me, rather than say on television, ‘I should call my mom.’
Family conflicts are bad enough but imagine having them aired in dueling books! After Tori Spelling spoofed her mother, Candy Spelling, on her delicious VHI show So NoTORIous and wrote about her in her best seller sTORI Telling, Candy is taking her turn with the Tuesday release of her memoir Stories from Candyland.
The best tidbits involving Tori are in chapter 4: Hollywood Wife and Mother 101: A Star Isn’t Born. Here are some excerpts:
I hadn’t been married to one of Hollywood’s greatest showmen for decades without figuring out that publication of Tori’s book had been timed to promote the new season of her TV show and vice-versa … Tori’s reality show was moving from its setting at an inn to her home in Hollywood. So, without having to worry about feedings guests and cleaning rooms, she would now have fewer concerns and more time to talk about me. Darn.
Almost everyone had an opinion. I was a good mother. I was a terrible mother. Tori was a good daughter. Tori was a terrible mother and daughter. Her husband, Dean, should take off his glasses. Dean should shave. My grandson, Liam, is adorable, but should be eating less and sleeping more.
I’m not sure what Tori means when she says our relationship is complicated. I wish she would call me, rather than say on television, ‘I should call my mom.’ I wish she’d tell me she was unhappy about something that happened when she was in the sixth grade that I thought was the highlight of her life.
Tori does usually end her dissertations about our life with “We love each other.”
We do. And we always will.
