Caitlyn Jenner’s son father’s gender identity: “I’ve known for 25 years and I’ve always been supportive!”
Caitlyn Jenner officially came out to the world as a transgender woman last spring.
But this was something her eldest child, 37-year-old Burt Jenner, had known about since before even his teen years.
‘A lot of people don’t know that this is something that I’ve known now for, I think, 25 years,’ professional race car driver Burt tells Esquire.
The knowledge, which he had long kept to himself, led to his being a staunch supporter of gay, lesbian and transgender people.
‘Before I was allowed to tell anybody, or before my dad even knew that I knew, I went and marched on behalf of Prop 8 through the streets of Los Angeles. I’ve always tried to be an outspoken supporter of the LGBT community.’
Burt was thrilled when his father as re-introduced to the world as Caitlyn in June through a Vanity Fair cover story.
‘I was very excited,’ he says. ‘Part of me was screaming to say, “Hey, I’ve known for 25 years and I’ve always been supportive!” I always will be.’
Burt was born during his father’s nine-year marriage to Chrystie Scott which ended in 1981. The former couple also have a daughter. Jenner went on to father sons Brody and Brandon with second wife Linda Thompson and had daughters Kylie and Kendall with third wife Kris Jenner who is also the mother of Kim, Kourtney,Khloe and Rob Kardashian.
