Breaking News: Beloved gay couple Will and Sonny to be written off of daytime soap “Days of Our Lives”
One of the only reasons I put up with Days of Our Lives outlandish storylines is because I love the characters of Will Horton (played by three-time Emmy winner Chandler Massey) and Sonny Kiriakis (played by Emmy winner Freddie Smith).
Now comes word via Smith that the actors and their gay characters are leaving the show with their final episodes to air in September (the show is taped many months in advance).
I am disgusted.
These are wonderful actors and beloved characters who are part of core families. And, they are one of daytime TV’s very few examples of a gay married couple.
Once they are off the show, I will never watch it again.
Epic #FAIL.

I will miss Salem so much!! Thank you all for the incredible love and support throughout the years. I really feel we told a love story that will live on forever.— freddie smith (@freddiemsmith) February 12, 2020
Wish it weren’t coming to an end, but I will be forever grateful to everyone who went on this journey with us. https://t.co/Wv0ZfQwFGo

That gives me the excuse to stop watching Days. The only other character I remotely find worth way hint is Xander. No the only soap will continue to follow is Coronation Street. There are gay characters that don’t have to deal with silly storylines. I will miss Will and Sonny regardless of their convuluted plots.

Hey Greg … I can see why you are disappointed. But are you really disgusted? That’s quite a bit of drama!

I’m disgusted from the standpoint of LGBT representation. One gay couple in the town. Dozens of straight couples and straight characters. Why write out the gay couple who are popular, part of core families, and performed by actors who have brought a combined four Emmys to the show. So yes, disgusted.

“We rip out so much of ourselves to be cured of things faster than we should that we go bankrupt by the age of thirty and have less to offer each time we start with someone new. But to feel nothing so as not to feel anything – what a waste!” Lines from Call Me By Your Name……..
Sonny is now 31, Will is now 29……….I am sure that an “age” factor was part of the reason for their pending departure……So SAD!!!

I think you’re right about being disgusted. Most of these soaps are built around families, and their “adventures” go on in various contexts. With such popular characters, what are the writers thinking? It doesn’t make sense. I guess it gives many of us a reason to wean ourselves from the last of the soap operas. Maybe it’s time to dump the writers, or else dump the show. We would probably end up with something we don’t need any more of…another “talking heads” show.

please don’t say you’ll never watch again I predict there will be a new gay character or two soon!
they had a potential blockbuster when they put will in a jail cell with the hottest guy on any soap : Ben! their good-bye hug was so sweet! I thought sure Will would turn Ben gay!
Mark Noonan says:
I don’t want any new gay characters. Bring back Sonny and Will.
