Breakfast w/Greg: Sharon Stone says Meryl Streep looks like “an unmade bed” and Chris Gorham has new show!
Good morning and happy Friday!
Sorry for not posting a morning column of tidbits each day this week but my workload has intensified in the new year so my posting times might be a bit unpredictable some days.
But I had to find the time to write about Sharon Stone’s latest insert-foot-in-mouth incident.
In an interview with Tatler magazine, the glamorous Basic Instinct and Casino star made a remark about the appearance of Meryl Streep who, at 60, is still getting choice roles and is currently at her box office peak with such hit films as It’s Complicated, Julie & Julia, Mamma Mia and The Devil Wears Prada.
“I think that’s why Meryl Streep is working so much, because she looks like a woman we can all relate to,” Stone tells Tatler.
“I look at her and I think, ‘I’m chasing my kids, I’ve moved my parents in with me, I’m coping with food spills – that looks like me in real life’.
“Meryl looks like an unmade bed, and that’s what I look like. To me, that looks true.”
Ouch!
Her comments have raised some eyebrows but the reaction is nothing compared to the backlash Stone got for saying during an interview at the Cannes Film Festival that the devastating 2008 Earthquake in China which killed tens of thousands of people might have been some kind of “karma” for the Communist nation’s treatment of Tibet and the Dalai Lama.
Stone, who I respect and appreciate greatly for her work on behalf of AIDS research, has had some bad career karma as of late with a string of her movies going straight to DVD. But she has just been signed for a juicy story arc on Law & Order SVU. The last time she did a recurring TV role – on ABC’s The Practice – she won an Emmy.
