Breakfast w/Greg: Outfest gets $30,000 grant and wishing a very happy birthday to Mr. Bruce Vilanch!

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2671/3972470244_74afa43c75.jpgHappy Monday!

I know it’s almost lunch but I wanted to get some of the American Music Awards stuff posted before the morning column and now breakfast time has passed!

In my email this morning was the excellent news that Outfest 2010: The Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival has been awarded a $30,000 grant from the Academy Foundation of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The grant will be used to reach new audiences, specifically youth ages 18-25 and audiences who have little exposure to LGBT images.

Kirsten Schaffer, the executive director of Outfest, said it’s an honor to be included “in such a distinguished and prestigious grant program” and added: “It’s very exciting to know that we will be able to use funds to expand our outreach and cultivate new audiences.”

This is most excellent news! Outfest means so much to me and has provided me and so many thousands of others with rich movie memories each summer nd throughout the year. This year’s festival takes place July 8 – 18. My calendar is absolutely cleared!

BRUCE’S BIRTHDAY: There’s a reason I selected a photo I took a few months ago of Kirsten and Bruce Vilanch for this column: today is Bruce’s 61st birthday! (I love that this pic is now featured on Bruce’s Wikipedia page!)

Bruce is such a hoot and his new opening line at various events has been getting huge laughs: “Hello … I’m Chaz Bono. I’m in transition.”

Bruce is such a pro and he’s been providing us with his comic gifts for several decades now writing for the Academy Awards ceremonies and for such stars as his old pal Bette Midler and he has written for such campy shows as Domny & Marie and The Brady Bunch Variety Hour.

Bruce also played Edna Turblad in Hairspray both on Broadway and on a national tour wearing very uncomfortable heels!

Happy birthday Bruce and thanks for the many laughs! Looking forward to many more.

One Remark

  1. Maybe Mr Vilanch will be happy to hear this? When scrolling down the screen I saw the top of the picture I thought it was going to be about Diane Keaton.
