Birthday to remember for Greg in (West) Hollywood
I blame the mango martinis.
Several years ago, I had a mango martini at The Abbey in West Hollywood on my birthday and have done so just about every year since. I never have one on any other day of the year.
Anyway, they are delicious – but they leave you with a hangover!
This was not any kind of milestone birthday for me but it sure was a fun one. Since I had just had the Greg In Hollywood 5th anniversary party last month and so many of my friends came out for that, I decided to be low-key this year with a boys night out with just a handful of my friends.
It was so much fun – and we even tried to do an Ellen-style Oscars selfie with my pal Jim Key acting as the Bradley Cooper of the bunch.
It took us a few tries but we finally got one that showed all of our faces. My friend Mark Kellem kept getting Liza’d out of the shot initially (Miss Minnelli tried to get in the Oscars selfie but was overtaken by Channing Tatum!)
Before going down the street for dinner, he had our drinks at The Abbey in an area under the Elizabeth Taylor portrait – Miss Taylor had been a frequent visitor to the hotspot in her later years.
Anyway, I got texts and emails and phone calls throughout the day but the thing I’m finding that really gives your birthday some extra zing is Facebook. I heard from more than 400 people and a lot of them I actually know!
It’s surreal to see your wall filled with cool messages from people ranging from high school and college friends to folks like Greg Louganis and Thomas Roberts to half of the West Hollywood City Council!
It was a very good day indeed.
Thanks to everyone for making it so special.
