Billie Jean King part of first-ever LGBT inclusion and leadership event at Wimbledon

(Excuse this epic caption, but… sorry not sorry After the success of #LGBTennis events at the US and Australian Opens in the last year, I wanted to try something different for #Wimbledon. I approached @alexandrawillis this spring when I was in London, and when I told her I wanted to engage young leaders, athletes, queer people and allies for an event with an #LGBT icon, she said she thought the AELTC would be behind something like that. // Fast-forward two months (and dozens of emails, hundreds of WhatsApps, and endless, tireless efforts later) and Friday we held The Championships’ first-ever inclusion and leadership event, spearheaded by none other than @billiejeanking herself. // Some 40 individuals attended, including a group of young women from a nearby school, gay activists, queer education leaders, youth sport organizers and others to talk with Billie Jean about what they can do – what *WE* can do – to be more inclusive. // BJK herself was no doubt a rockstar, and I’m so thankful that this all came together. The @wta stepped in with a generous donation to @pridesportsuk, who had been my partner-in-planning-crime as far as getting key people there for the big day. // The attendees got a bespoke tour of the AELTC grounds, lunch from the Club and then a personal, inspiring, raw, engaging and let’s-do-this afternoon with Billie Jean. // We got coverage in one of the biggest British dailies and on CNN, spreading the word about how we can shape, fight, be, do more. // My heart is full, but I’m only more inspired than ever. I’m proud. And that’s how I’d like to celebrate #pride this month
