Bill Brochtrup reacts to being cast in “NYPD Blue” reboot: “It’s like a wonderful surreal dream”

TV Line reports that ABC’s in-the-works NYPD Blue revival will include two of the original series’ stars.

Kim Delaney and Bill Brochtrup will reprise their respective roles as Diane Russell and John Irvin in the pilot, which is set to begin production next month. The duo will be billed as series regulars.

The potential series centers on a now-adult Theo Sipowicz who has not yet been cast. Theo is attempting to earn his detective shield and work in the 15th squad while investigating his father Andy’s murder. Andy was played by Emmy winner Dennis Franz.

Brochtrup reacted to the news on Facebook: “It’s like a wonderful surreal dream, being asked to come back to the 15th Precinct after all this time. I’m over the moon and exceedingly grateful for the chance to work with Matt Olmstead, Nick Wootton, Jesse Bocho, Dayna Bochco, 20th Century Fox and ABC again. The script is fantastic, everything I hoped it would be (I think both fans and newcomers will love it) and the fact that Steven gave his blessing to the project before he died this past spring means everything. Plus the awesomeness that is Kim Delaney! Absolutely thrilled. Here we go!”
