Betty White talks about Liberace and Cary Grant
Betty White’s appearance on The Joy Behar Show this week was a juicy one.
The Hot in Cleveland star, who has a new book out this week called If You Ask Me (And of Course You Didn’t) spoke for the first time publicly about her Golden Girls co-star Bea Arthur’s intense dislike of her.
Then things remained juicy when Joy asked Betty about the last time she appeared on Behar’s HLN show and made headlines for casually mentioning that Cary Grant was gay just like Rock Hudson. [Grant’s daughter Jennifer said in a recent interview that her father did not mind when someone thought he was gay but she seemed to indicating that he was not).
Betty seemed clueless that she had in any way could have outed Grant who was widely believed to be at the very least bisexual.
Anyway, that brings us to Betty White and Liberace. who she called “a great and dear personal friend” who sometimes escorted her to Hollywood events when both were just starting out.
“One windy night we arrived at this premiere and we were getting out of the car and Liberace got out first,” Betty recalled. “I held out my hand because I thought he was going to help me out of the car. But he was holding his hair.”
When Joy remarked that there was no doubt about Liberace being gay, Betty laughed and said emphatically: “Not. At. All.”
Here is the video of her chat with Joy:
