Betty DeGeneres is on the mend – get well soon!

It’s always so good to see Betty DeGeneres who has become a very public symbol of a parent who fully loves and accepts their LGBT child.

So we are all wishing her the very best as she recovers from a fall that resulted in her breaking her back.

‘Thanks for all the love & support for my mama!’ Ellen wrote on Twitter. ‘She broke her back but she’s recovering at home. Send her a message here http://say.ly/cdm4fwB

Betty has become a regular presence at various LGBT events since her daughter came out publicly in 1997 and is the author of the books, Love Ellen: A Mother Daughter Journey and Just a Mom.

‘Before Ellen came out to me, which happened when she was 20 years old—and now she is 54—nobody talked about it back then,’ she said in an interview with Boston Spirit magazine earlier this year. ‘So, as far as I knew I had no interaction with anyone who was gay or lesbian.’

She first non-gay spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign’s National Coming Out Project and is an active member of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG). DeGeneres also writes a column for the website PlanetOut called Ask Betty.

‘I had never even heard of the Human Rights Campaign and they were the first ones to contact me,’ she told Boston Spirit. ‘That’s what launched me on this late blooming career, speaking at their dinners all over the country. Then universities started asking me to speak, then corporations. So it’s been 15 years of a lot of speaking, and traveling, and educating, and it’s been great.’

2 Remarks

  1. Miss seeing you in your seat on the show…….feel better real soon

  2. miss seeing you on the show. Job Cryer put up a brave front, wrapped in a shawl, emoting, sitting in your chair, but he isn’t you, Betty Degeneres. Hope you have a speedy recovery ! Respectfully, Ann DeAngelis
