Betty Buckley and Rachel York will bring “Grey Gardens” to LA’s Ahmanson Theatre this summer

Titanic the Musical will no longer be a part of Ahmanson Theatre’s current season and will be replaced by … Grey Gardens starring Betty Buckley and Rachel York!

Oh, I am so there!

Are you kidding me?

It was announced today that the show, which had a run at Bay Street Theater in New York earlier this year, is directed by Michael Wilson and will run July 2 through Aug. 14.

The musical is based on the 1975 documentary film by Albert and David Maysles about two eccentric women living in a tumble-down Long Island mansion. The musical premiered on Broadway in 2006 and received 10 Tony nominations.

Center Theatre Group’s artistic director Michael Ritchie said in a statement: “This is a classic piece of Americana that intrigues with a touching story of riches to rags that is both hilarious and heartbreaking. It is a pleasure to bring the legendary Betty Buckley and to welcome back Rachel York (‘Anything Goes’) to Los Angeles in this lauded Bay Street Theater production.”

One Remark

  1. I saw it in Sag Harbor this summer and really enjoyed it with those two. I would say it’s hard to beat the original cast that played on Broadway (Christine Ebersole! AmIRight?), but I’m glad the show will live on and Rachel York and Betty Buckley were “absolutely terrific, honestly.” So many deep and touching themes.
