Barbra Streisand will sing at the Oscars!
This is like buttah!
Barbra Streisand is going to be singing at this year’s Academy Awards.
The Oscars, being produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, will feature a tribute to movie musicals.
They said in a statement to ABC News: ‘In an evening that celebrates the artistry of movies and music, how could the telecast be complete without Barbra Streisand? We are honored that she has agreed to do a very special performance.’
Zadan and Meron have produced such big screen musicals as Chicago, Hairspray and the recent remake of Footloose as well as television productions of Gypsy, Annie and The Music Man.
Streisand’s movie musical credits include Funny Girl for which she won an Academy Award for best actress, Yentl, Hello Dolly, Funny Lady, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever and A Star is Born.
She won a second Oscar, this time for songwriting, for Evergreen, the theme song for A Star is Born which she performed at the 1977 Academy Awards – a night I still remember well!
Streisand, 71, returned to the big screen last December in the comedy The Guilt Trip, her first starring role in 15 years. She has plans to star in a remake of the musical Gypsy but no firm production dates have been announced.
