Barbra Streisand is on cover of Variety Magazine: ‘I think women are more powerful than men’
Two-time Oscar winner Barbra Streisand is on the cover of this week’s issue of Variety Magazine and she’s looking amazing.
The interview is getting all kinds of attention because Streisand shares that she cloned her favorite dog.
But I found far more interesting what the director of Yentl, The Prince of Tides, and The Mirror Has Two Faces has to say about sexism in the movie business.
“I didn’t know it was a glass ceiling,” she says about her decision to step behind the camera. “I just thought, they don’t believe in a woman’s capacity to handle finances or to be the businessman. Years ago, I was told, ‘You want control? A woman wants control? That’s crazy!’”
She’s blistering about the mistreatment and inequality of women in Hollywood and the negligence of an industry that has failed to create more opportunities for female filmmakers. In her long-in-the-works memoir, Streisand devotes a chapter to “The Boys’ Club.” When will her book see the light of day? “I have no idea.”
Streisand has been a Hollywood trailblazer for five decades, creating a climate where discussions about equal treatment for women could even exist. “I have a line in one of my journals,” she says, flipping through binders filled with pencil-written notes. “It was actually about how we’re giving you” — she nods to her male interviewer — “the benefit of the doubt that we’re equal. I think women are more powerful than men.”

Richard V says:
Barbra Streisand is correct, women are the stronger sex, they can multiple orgasms, bare children, and deal with Menstrual flow, plus emotions at the same time. Women gave birth to the human race so they should be treated with respect and not told what to do with their bodies.
Now the not so positive in the message I’m writing… Women at some time told men they were the stronger sex. Men were the hunters that’s true. Women for some reason put the “strong” onto men… could it be women didn’t want to work… could it be women were Jealous of other women and therefore gave birth to Sabotage of the female sex. Something to think about.
Love you Barbra
