Feud over for now: Barbara Walters says she isn’t mad at Rosie O’Donnell anymore

roLet’s face it, it’s a lot more fun to write about Rosie O’Donnell and Barbara Walters fighting than making up. There’s is a complicated relationship which was severely tested several times during Rosie’s rocky one year as moderator on The View.

But Walters told Scott Collins on the Los Angeles Times in an interview published Monday that she and Rosie had reconciled since their most recent falling out last fall.

“I can never be mad at Rosie,” Walters said. “I just saw her; she was doing a reading of a one-man play that Nora Ephron had written, and I went backstage and gave her a hug.”

So why was Babs sore at Rosie anyway? I’ll tell you why. Because while O’Donnell was promoting that disastrous variety special of hers last November,. she remarked in one of the interviews that while she was on the show, that the ladies on The View are not the best of friends off-screen. Walters responded on air on The View the next day essentially telling O’Donnell to get on with her life.

If you ask me, it was a bit of an over-reaction and Rosie tried to make amends in an appearance on The Today Show: “The fact that I hurt her hurts me because you know I was 14 years old and watched the first woman to ever moderate a presidential debate – she was the moderator between Carter and Ford. I remember it vividly. I was 15 when she talked to Sadat and Begin. She is one of the women who paved the way for every other woman in broadcasting and I love her regardless of the fact that to her I’m the rowdy teenaged daughter she can’t control.”

What a tribute! No wonder Barbara hugged her!
