Author Brett Easton Ellis thinks Matt Bomer is “too gay” to play lead in “Shades of Grey” movie
In case you are wondering why more gay actors don’t come out publicly, it’s because of the attitudes of people like author Brett Easton Ellis.
Apparently Matt Bomer, who convincingly plays a straight man each week on TV’s White Collar and was also a raging heterosexual in the male stripper flick Magic Mike, is being considered for the lead in the feature film version of the best selling book 50 Shades of Grey.
The character of Christian Grey is that of a straight businessman with a sadomasicistic sex life.
Easton Ellis, author of American Psycho and other novels, hopped on Twitter to share his thoughts about how wrong he thinks Bomer would be for the role. He wrote that it would be ‘absolutely ludicrous’ to give the role to Bomer who, earlier this year, came out publicly when he acknowledged his male partner and children in a speech.
‘Matt Bomer is totally hot and a very good actor. He is NOT right for Christian Grey and it complicates the role. … I don’t care how good an actor you are but being married to another man complicates things for playing CG.’
The author added that his objection to Bomer was ‘about an intensely straight actor wanting absolutely to screw Ana Steele’ and tweeted that the role ‘demands an actor that is genuinely into women.’
Easton Ellis is wrong on so many levels and completely out of line.
I just hope he doesn’t discourage others from joining the growing number of actors, like Bomer, who have had the courage to come out and let the chips fall where they may.

Mort says:
I had been intrigued and may very well have bought Fifty Shades on my next trip to the bookstore. Not now. The book and potential movie must be too hetero for me.
Sammie says:
Its obvious that Mr. Ellis is a phobe and needs to stick to pecking his Smith Corona and leave the casting to industry experts.
RichB in PS says:
Why does BEE’s opinion matter [in print] have with another author’s movie [or book]?
Gaspar Marino says:
He didn’t write the book and as far as I know isn’t writing the screenplay, so his opinion really doesn’t count and shows how ignorant he is about acting.

I visited the Tweeter account. I’m not too certain if he’s jealous or homophobic. Actors are supposed to be prepared to take on any type of role, with no regard for who they are in their real life. I think his comments are a combination of his personal feelings and his perspective on Hollywood. This doesn’t mean he’s entirely wrong; it just means he is of no help. (Unless, of course, the purpose of his controversial Tweets are to generate publicity to help himself.)
C says:
I meant to say, “Twitter,” not Tweeter.
Lexxvs says:
Sadly, once more, age showed how hefty a burden can be for a mind to be free of prejudice, especially when homosexuality is involved. There are great exceptions, but all in all, the probability to get ignorant about gay stuff increases with age. Remember what that KISS band member said about Adam Lambert, praising his skills but with an opinion contrary to him being open about his sexual identity because it would –purportedly- hamper his career. And time proved him wrong. The same will happen about those betting against Matt Bomer.
ELAINE FREITAS says:
Eu o apoio!
Nancy Grierson says:
Matt Bomer would be perfect for the part of christian Grey
sandra says:

I don’t think that being “Gay” raise an issue to play Mr.Gray roll
And I don’t think it’s only my opinion, but Matt bomer body build & face structure is perfectly suits the roll more than any other actor
As an actor he is not objecting or disapprove playing this roll & I guess it’s a little bet racists
And I wanna add that he should leave the casting and the actors to the viewers & the directors
