Aussie actor Harry Cook comes out on YouTube in heartfelt video titled “From the Heart”
Kudos to Australian actor Harry Cook for coming out his way.
Harry has posted a video on YouTube with this message: “This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do but I know it’s the right thing to do. I hope I can have your support. .”
On the video, he admits he’s “pretty scared about doing this’” and also that he had some fears about how it could affect his career.
‘I thought about it for a really long time and really stewed over it. I was like “Oh my God, this could ruin my career.”’
Harry acknowledges the fear that some producers and directors could now be worried that he can’t play straight convincingly.
To that he says: ‘The title of my job is “actor” … it’s fake, it’s pretend, I’m not me. I know how to play straight – I did it all through high school.’
Harry is best known for playing the son of Geena Davis in the 2010 Australian drama Accidents Happen.
He will next appear alongside Sam Neil and Bryan Brown in the TV series Old School, and in the feature film Drown about homophobic fears and unrequited love among a group of young Australian surfers going tragically wrong.
Since the video went public, Harry tweeted this thanks: “I know I’ve said it a few times but I really can’t thank you all enough for being so sweet. I’m so so grateful. It means the world to me.”
