Andy Cohen’s message for Chechnya: ‘Imprisoning people because of who they love is inhuman’
Andy Cohen took on a far heavier topic than Real Housewives drama and a daily Mazel.
The Watch What Happens Live host took to social media today to speak out against anti-gay violence in Chechnya.
‘Right now in Cechnya over 100 gay and bisexual men have been rounded up,’ Cohen said.
‘They have been kept in prisons in terrible conditions where they are tortured and some have even been killed.’
It’s been reported that the country has concentration camps for gay men.
Human rights defenders have said at least 100 men have been arrested with many being rounded up and kept in concentration camps. At least three men have been killed.
A Chechan government spokesperson has denied there were any gay people in the region to detain.
Says Cohen: ‘I have a message for Chechan leader Ramzan Kadyrov: “You sir are responsible for these crimes. Imprisoning people because of who they love is inhuman. You have to stop it. Free the gays.’
He added: ‘Everyone else, you can also speak out. We need to protest until they are released.’
