Amazing news: Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin will star in new Netflix comedy series “Grace and Frankie”

Well, this is just too delicious.

More than 30 years after they starred in the film 9 to 5, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are reuniting for a new Netflix comedy series.

In Grace and Frankie, the acclaimed actresses will play two women whose husbands have left them – for each other.

Complicating matters is that Grace (Tomlin) and Frankie (Fonda) are each other’s longtime nemeses and now find their lives permanently intertwined.

Netflix, home to such buzzworthy shows as Orange is the New Black, House of Cards and the reboot of Arrested Development, has ordered 13 episodes of the series which will premiere in 2015.

I don’t know about you, but I see myself binge-watching this on day one with a bunch of friends.

It was 34 years ago that the acclaimed actresses co-starred with Dolly Parton in the comedy smash 9 to 5. They played a trio of secretaries who take revenge upon their sexist boss played by dastardly Dabney Coleman.

The show marks the first time Fonda has headlined a TV series. But the two-time Oscar winner has had a recurring role on The Newsroom and in 1984 won an Emmy for the TV movie The Dollmaker.

But it is a quick return to series television for Tomlin who starred in the ABC sitcom Malibu Country with Reba McEntire during the 2012-13 season.

Tomlin, a seven-time Emmy winner, had also previously been a regular or had a recurring role on The West Wing, Murphy Brown and Desperate Housewives and first came to fame on the NBC comedy series Laugh-In.

What’s especially cool is that we have a series headlined by two awesome stars in their 70s who are still at the peak of form and only get better with age.

2 Remarks

  1. I TOTALLY forgot they were together in 9 to 5! I loved that movie and the actresses. I saw it pretty recently and noticed all those typewriters:) The premise sounds like a fresh idea. It’ll be cool to see how it plays out.

  2. Netflix is churning out some really fabulous television of late. This show should kick significant butt.
