Alison Sweeney was “betrayed and hurt” over decision to kill off her “Days of Our Lives” son Will Horton

Alison Sweeney stepped back into her Days of Our Lives role of Sami Brady this week.

But it’s not something the actress is happy about and she makes no effort to hide her displeasure.

Sami has arrived in Salem on the same day it’s discovered that her first born son, Will Horton, is the latest victim of the Necktie Killer.

“Completely honestly, I was angry,” Sweeney tells Soap Opera Digest. “I felt betrayed and hurt they were doing it. I had a crazy reaction that I didn’t want to do it and I didn’t want to go be part of it because I was upset. And then I felt like I went through the five stages of grief.”

Sweeney thinks killing Will, a legacy character, is “a big mistake.”

“I am sorry they did it but, of course, I had to go there and mourn,” said Sweeney. “I think there are other ways they could have handled it. It breaks my heart that there is no Will anymore. There have been a lot of storylines that I haven’t agreed with, but I always understood the motive behind them and the value of getting the audience riled up. But this particular story point is something that I just don’t agree with and I didn’t from the moment they told me. And I don’t understand why they did it.”

5 Remarks

  1. Thank you Allison for having the courage to say this. Days can say over and over again that it was to bring back fan favorites but I’m sorry that is a total cop out. There are other ways they could of done that. They could of just continued to kill off that day players aka Paige or something like that. However, no they had to go and kill off not only a legacy character but a gay character at that. What are they trying to convey to the young gay kids? That gay people aren’t allowed to be happy and live a full filling life filled with love. Yes, I know that this is a soap but still other shows have at least given hope. Queer As Folk may not of had Brian and Justin married at the end but you had this sense that they would be together. Brothers and Sisters at least put Kevin and Scotty back together at the end even though they really didn’t show them getting through Scotty cheating but I digress. As The World Turns gave their Luke and Noah fans a glimmer of hope that they would reunite later on. Then there are countless movies that I could list as well. I expected better from Days and I do suspect that this might hurt them later on down the road.

  2. I am just glad Guy Wilson is gone wish they would have recast but glad Guy is gone he was bad

  3. I, also, agree with Alison. The part of Will should not have been permanently written off. While I never felt a connection with Guy as much as with Chandler, I believe there were plenty of other options to take a break from a storyline using Will than to kill him.

  4. I have been a true days of our lives fan since 1987-1988 and always will. It was hot and cold that I liked Guy but I never thought that they would kill off a big character on days like Wii Horton. Just like many of us I grew up with the character. I know this is a soap opera but these people who are on this soap is like a family to me. Yes many times I won’t agree with the story line but they will always be important to me as a fan. I am actually pissed off that the writers did this to Wii’s character. I can see it in the other days cast members eyes that they agree with me. They could have sent Wii off to see Sonny. I hope not but I wonder if this will hurt the soap opera. I will always be a fan of days of our lives. Please writers don’t make this big mistake again!
