I remember the days when Amazon only sold books. You’d go online and on the mainscreen there’d be a list of the top bestsellers. One day, I went online and the two biggest selling books were Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
I was like, who the hell is Harry Potter? The first book had an incredible amount of reviews and was still rated at around 5 stars. That was unheard of. I was an adult, but the books sounded like something I would have liked as a child. And they were half-price to boot! So I ordered both books.
And I loved them!! Harry Potter was such an immediately likeable character that anyone would identify with. He was treated like crap, he had a history of loss at a young age, but he still was filled with enthusiasm and a sense of adventure. He was the kid I wish I had been.
As the years went by, the Harry Potter books got better. (The first couple of books were good, but they were very formulaic and really, they didn’t make much logical sense. But they were so good!)
I am so grateful for the Harry Potter series, and for Joanne Rowling. She created a world – hell, she created a universe – that was so rich and intoxicating and amazing. She gave me beauty.
Quite honestly, it devastates me that she eventually revealed herself as such a hateful bigot. I don’t understand it. How could such an ugly person write such fantastic books?
I have no interest in debating Rowling. She’s wrong. Period. End of discussion.
Sometimes people’s genders aren’t correctly identified at birth. Yeah, I get it. A baby has a penis or a vagina, so they must be a or b, right? Wrong. It’s not that simple, it’s never been that simple, and why in hell would anyone insist they know better what another person’s gender is than the person themself? I mean, that kind of arrogance and pure hatred is unbelievable.
I’m sorry. I could probably rant about this for hours, but I’d be preaching to the choir. J.K. Rowling, I am so disappointed that you turned out to be such a piece of judgmental shit. Your books inspire and excite people, yet you choose to live your personal life in such a mean-spirited and truly despicable fashion.
Shame on you.
