Alec Baldwin on Anderson Cooper: “You couldn’t get him out of the closet for 10 years with a canister of tear gas. Now he’s the sheriff”

Uh boy, Alec Baldwin and his mouth.

He’s a talented actor whose work I have enjoyed for many years but I’m not always a fan of how he conducts himself off the screen and stage.

No one has that many confrontations and squabbles without being at fault a good deal of the time.

Alec had some things to say about Anderson Cooper after The Silver Fox called him out for a homophobic Twitter meltdown Alec had last month.

He had called a Daily Mail reporter a ‘toxic little queen’ in a Twitter rant after a story ran claiming Baldwin’s pregnant wife was tweeting during actor James Gandolfini’s funeral.

‘I’m gonna find you, George Stark, you toxic little queen, and I’m gonna fuck…you…up.’ Baldwin said in one of a series of profanity-laden tweets.

Another tweet stated: ‘I’d put my foot up your fucking ass, George Stark, but I’m sure you’d dig it too much.’

Cooper wondered on Twitter: “Why does Alec Baldwin get a pass when he uses gay slurs? If a conservative talked of beating up a ‘queen’ they would be vilified.”

Baldwin has appeared on The Howard Stern Show and, of course, could not resist the chance to take a shot at Cooper: “What i realize about him is, everybody in media, they have a job to do. Anderson Cooper has a job to do. And that job is to try to reinforce his credibility in the gay community after the fact that you couldn’t get him out of the closet for 10 years with a canister of tear gas. Now he’s the sheriff. Now he’s running around writing everybody a ticket!”

Well Alec, I think you deserved one.

9 Remarks

  1. don’t hate…Alec speaking the truh..

  2. They are both media whores.

  3. Once again Alec Baldwin is only right.

I hope you supply some perspective on this media tussle, Greg. Alec Baldwin has spoken often with unstinting praise of the gay men who helped him along the way when he was just a struggling at/waiter/Studio 54 bartender. That he was straight did not deter them at all from giving him advice on what to say, what to wear, how to act, and who he ought to know — no strings attached.

As for Anderson Cooper I’m sure you recall “Out” magazine’s famous “Glass Closet” cover with models wearing Anderson Cooper and Jodie Foster masks. That was YEARS before Cooper finally came out. Jodie Foster as of course made the meanest, nastiest coming out at the Golden Globes. Anderson Cooper has been far more gracious. But to call Alec Baldwin on this casually testy outburst all I could say was “Who died and made you Neil Patrick Harris?”

  4. Just like his brothers….a looser.

  5. If we’re all honest, it does seem Alec is speaking this truth on this occasion.

I don’t think AC is doing it consciously either. I think it’s the media that has thrust his opinions to the forefront far too often. He’s always been outspoken in support of gay people, thus the comments he made about Alec wouldn’t have been unusual even before he came out himself.

  6. But why attack Anderson Cooper for making a perfectly valid point? Why not just call the writer an “asshole” instead of a “Toxic little queen?” These are the words kids on playgrounds hear and then go home hating themselves. Alec should know better and not try and deflect from his own behavior by dragging others into it for calling him out. When Anderson decided to come out is so besides the point of Alec Baldwin publicly hurling anti-gay slurs.

  7. I totally agree with Alec and further more why is Anderson defending the bigoted GOP oh god don’t tell me Anderson is secretly one of those log Cabin nutcases.

  8. Greg, My comment wasn’t attacking AC. I was simply saying that Alec’s comment on him was somewhat valid.

I think Alec should’ve had more flack for his comments. Period. The right has seized on this as yet another “double standard” in their eyes. Especially since it happened in the middle of the Paula Deen issue which so many seem on the right seem to think is only about the distant past while they ignore her comments in the past year or two.

  9. Either way, Alec Baldwin is getting so hard-edged in his old age. He’s our new Frank Sinatra. How long before he starts snapping at reporters (or airline pilots) “You’re dead!”
