Afternoon Greg: Christopher Meloni flexes; the Cruise-Beckham bromance; Maddow on DADT

Happy Thursday!

Busy day for me with a press day in a few hours for Hump Day then heading downtown for Outfest 2009 opening night.

Love it!

MY FAVORITE DETECTIVE: He doesn’t get the credit he deserves (just one Emmy nomination – ever!) but is there a more sexy and mesmerizing actor in all of television than Law & Order SVU star Christopher Meloni?

Of course we will always love, love, love him for his role as bisexual serial killer Chris Keller on HBO’s late great prison drama Oz. Any actor – straight or gay – who is taking on a gay role that requires kissing should watch clips of Meloni and his co-star Lee Tergeson locking lips over the years. They went for it each and every time!

Though Oz finished its run several years back, Meloni is returning to the role of Eliot Stabler on SVU for the show’s 10th season! He and co-star Mariska Hargitay had been involved in some tricky contract negotiations but lets face it, without them, there’s no show. They are irreplaceable!

Love this picture of Chrius showing off his guns during a break in filming this week. To see more pics of Meloni and SVU guest star Wentworth Miller, check out Socialite Life!

RED-HOT A-LIST BROMANCE: It seems that Tom Cruise and David Beckham have much more than a photo op friendship.

The new book The Beckham Experiment by Sports Illustrated’s Grant Wahl devotes almost an entire chapter to the relationship between the charismatic pair who met six years ago. Reports the New York Daily News: Beckham says he talks to his BFF most days of the week and takes his advice on nearly everything. Tom was influential in Becks’ decision to take a job with the L.A. Galaxy. He also recommended Beckham’s physical therapist.

But Beckham draws the line when it comes to Cruise’s love of Scientology. Beckham is adamant that he has no interest in his pal’s faith. “It’s something I respect, because Tom’s explained to me and Victoria what it’s all about. But he’s never turned around and said, ‘That is what you should be doing,’ because he would never do that. He and Katie have their beliefs … but me and Victoria have also got our own.”

LIFTING A FINGER: God bless Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-PA) for his decision to sponsor legislation to put an end to the military’s discriminatory Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy.

The Iraq War veteran appeared on MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Show last night to talk about it: “When you’re in Baghdad in 138-degree heat like I was exactly six years ago, when you’re [looking at] the guys to your left and your right or that young women to your left or your right, the fact is you don’t care what their sexual orientation is, you don’t care what their race is, their religion is, their creed is—you care if they can fire an assault rife, if they can kick down a door, that’s what this is about. And that’s why we need to repeal this, because now is the time to make it happen.”

Bravo!
