ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Greg In Hollywood takes in Steve Grand’s sold out show at Catalina Jazz Club
ABOUT LAST NIGHT: My blog is about to celebrate its 10th anniversary (next month!) and I want it to continue to be a living, breathing, ever-changing thing that keeps you – and me – interested.
So today I introduce you to the new About Last Night feature that will appear several times a week moving forward.
If you follow me on Instagram or are friends with me on Facebook, then you know I attend several events each week and post about them. They don’t always make their way onto the blog due to time constraints.
That changes starting now.
The About Last Night column will recap any noteworthy outings I’ve had in recent days. (Don’t worry, I won’t detail the nights when I bring home Chinese takeout and binge-watch Days of Our Lives with the dog next to me.)
Last night, my pal Jim Key joined me for the sold out Steve Grand concert at Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood. Steve, who gained fame in 2013 when the video for his song All-American Boy went viral in 2013, mixed songs from his two albums with covers of songs by Queen, Lady Gaga, Neil Young, and others.
Grand really makes an effort to connect with the audience not only through his music but by sharing his story between songs. He covered coming out, quick fame, family, a seven-year relationship that is now over, and how it is a dream come true that he has been able to travel the world performing his music.
He also shamelessly, but charmingly, hawked his CDs All-American Boy and Not the End of Me and other “merch” which included a Steve Grand beach towel!
His Southern California tour continues this week in San Diego, Palm Springs and San Francisco. Go to stevegrand.org for more information.
