ABC’s “What Would You Do?” looks at how customers react when lesbian is denied wedding dress by clerk

This is a segment of ABC News’ What Would You Do? that aired on Friday night.

I’m so proud of the people in this story for standing up against homophobia – especially the mother and daughter in the fourth segment. So deeply moving.

The segment was inspired by the story of Alix Genter, a graduate student at Rutgers University in New Jersey. She had found her perfect dress last summer but the task of planning her wedding became even more stressful when the owner of the shop allegedly called her and refused to sell her the dress because of her sexuality.

“What Would You Do?” traveled to a bridal shop in New Jersey to see how bystanders would react to such a scenario. Emotions ran high when our actress, Margaret, picked out a dress she liked but was told the shop would not sell her the dress because she was a lesbian.
