A star-studded evening at The Pantages for opening night of ‘The Bodyguard: The Musical’

Was fortunate enough to attend opening night of The Bodyguard: The Musical yesterday at The Pantages Theatre in Hollywood.

Boy was it a night to remember.

My pal Jim Key and I spotted several celebrities on our way in. Among them were RuPaul, Angela Bassett, Megan Hilty, Greg Louganis, Dee Wallace and Yvette Nicole Brown.

But the best was yet to come.

We found our way to our seats which were way up front in row C on the right side. Just as we are about to sit down I see this gorgeous woman and I do a double take. I did not immediately realize it was Margaret Cho until she said: ‘Greg! It’s Margaret.’

OMG.

Margaret introduced us to her new boyfriend and Jim took a pic of her cool shoes which were works of art. I told her how amazing she is looking as you can see.

Then we see that sitting directly in front of us is Mickey Dolenz who was a member of The Monkees.

And directly in the row behind us was Oscar winner JK Simmons and in his role was Olympic gymnast turned Broadway star Cathy Rigby.

We were trying to process this when John Barrowman (pictured with me below) and his tall drink of water husband Scott Gill walked in and took their seats across the aisle from us.

All this and the show had not even started.

Then it began – literally with a bang.

The musical closely follows The Bodyguard movie that starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner and things move along briskly.

So many Houston hits are peppered throughout the show including Greatest Love Of All, All At Once, I Will Always Love You, One Moment In Time and Saving All My Love, among others.

What makes you really love this show is the stupendous talents of Deborah Cox whose singing takes your breath away. And Jasmin Richardson as her sister has some wonderful moments of her own.

Leading man Judson Mills is strong and sexy as the bodyguard and the dancers in the show are dynamite.

We loved this show and highly recommend you get your tickets to see it. The show plays through May 21.
