A chat w/Josh Sussman of “Glee”

Josh Sussman may be a recurring character on the musical smash Glee but he apparently can’t carry a tune.
It doesn’t really matter since he plays school blogger Jacob Ben Israel who is always out to dig up the dirt on his classmates.
Josh, who was previously best known for his role as Hugh Normous in Wizards of Waverly Place has been in 10 of the episodes so far this season although he will not be in next week’s seasonĀ finale.
We chatted a few days ago at the opening of A Chorus Line at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood and I had to know what kind of ride it’s been like to be on this huge show.
“It’s very surreal,” Josh said. “I did my first five episodes before the show even came out then when I came back for my next bunch of episodes, the show blew up. Like now it’s got [renewed] for its third season before even finishing its first and it was like ‘Wow, I’m attached to this show that everyone loves. I feel truly blessed and I’m the happiest man in all the world.”
The cast wrapped the first 12 episodes last summer then did not resume shooting the last nine until this January. Everything had changed in between with magazine covers, awards and music sales.
“There was more pressure,” Josh said. “The show already had the Golden Globe and the SAG Award.”
But things quickly fell into place again: “It’s a good group of people, a very talented cast so it really hasn’t changed at all except now we’re getting accolades and we know that people are liking what we’re doing.”
