A Broadway musical based on the life of Cher? What a great idea – and it’s happening!
Cher is Broadway bound.
Well, the story of her life is – with three actresses playing Cher at different points throughout her life.
The longtime gay icon took to Twitter to confirm the news: ‘Just got off phone w/writer & director of musical. There will [be] performance in theatre with actors, dancers, singers!! It’ll [be] on Broadway 2018.’
The bio-musical will feature a book by Rick Elice who also wrote Jersey Boys. It will be directed by Jason Moore (Avenue Q) and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli (War Paint).
Now 71, Cher wowed the Billboard Music Awards last month when she performed two of her biggest hits – Believe and If I Could Turn Back Time’ wearing edgy and revealing outfits,
She is the only artist to have reached number one on the Billboard charts in each of the last six decades.
Her life is indeed epic with stardom coming while she was just a teenager and one-half of the pop duo Sonny and Cher with then-husband Sonny Bono who reached the top of the charts with such hits as I Got You Babe and The Beat Goes On.
They became variety show stars on television before divorcing and Cher went on to marry rock star Gregg Allman.
After splitting from Allman, she focused on acting and went on to become an Academy Award winning actress for Moonstruck.
Her other films include Silkwood, Mask, Suspect, Mermaids, The Witches of Eastwick and Come Back to the 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean.
She has also continued to perform live on tour and in Las Vegas and churn out hots that include Half Breed, Dark Lady, Gypsies Tramps and Thieves, The Way of Love, Take Me Home, I Found Someone, After All, Heart of Stone, Just Like Jessie James, Strong Enough and Song for the Lonely, among many others.
