2013 Academy Award Nominations: “How to Survive a Plague” gets Best Documentary nod

Was wide awake at 5:30 a.m. this morning to cover the Oscar nominations for Gay Star News and am going to be leaving soon for ABC day at the TV Critics Association press tour.

I will probably be found, sound asleep, at one of the panels later today.

But hey! It was well worth waking up at such an early hour and to see that the winner of the 2012 Greggy Award for Movie of the Year got an Oscar nod! The outstanding and deeply moving film How to Survive a Plague was nominated for best documentary.

Hooray!

I’m so glad and one of the reasons is that it means more people will see the movie and learn about that amazing, historic work, of ACT UP during the worst days of the AIDS crisis. They literally helped saved their owns lives and the lives of so many others.

A big congratulations to director David France!

Quick impressions of the nominations: I was shocked to see that Ben Affleck was not nominated for best director for Argo. … Thrilled to see two-time winner Sally Field get her first nomination since 1985, the year she won for Places in the HeartSilver Linings Playbook deserved every nomination it got … I’ve got to see Beasts of the Southern Wild

Go to Gay Star News to see my story on the nominations.
